Death of Tsuneji (Tony) Sakakibara Sensei
4 August 2013
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Tsuneji Sakakibara
Sensei died the afternoon of July 22, 2013. He had gone into the hospital
that morning and was being treated in ICU. His abdomen was filling with
fluid and they were having difficulty keeping it drained. His blood
pressure was out of control. He had septicemia (serious blood disease).
Sakakibara Sensei was born February 3, 1937, in Handa (Aichi), Japan.
He had succeeded Jon Takagi Sensei as Chief Instructor of Arizona Aikido
after Takagi Sensei's death. As his health started to fail, he took on
the role of Chief Instructor Emeritus. He continued to teach classes at
Arizona Aikido on a fairly regular basis. You can download this flier to post in your dojo.
Sakakibara Sensei's funeral will be held on Saturday morning, August 10, 2013, at Resthaven Park West Cemetery, 6450 West Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301, at 10:00 a.m. with internment to immediately follow the service. You can read Sakakibara Sensei's obituary here..
